Another e-mail from the same shop:

2000 Lafond Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills reg. $19.99 now $14.99
522 cases produced. A blend of grapes from the Lafond Vineyard, Hilltop Ranch, and Melville Vineyard, harvested in late October for optimum ripeness. Notes of guava and passionfruit, with hints of subtle oak and good acidity. Perfect for salmon or chicken on the grill!

2001 Lafond Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills reg. $19.99 now $14.99
1005 Cases Produced, 100% Lafond Vineyard fruit. A blend of several different Pinot clones, including grapes from 20 year-old vines, produces this marvelously balanced Pinot Noir. Aged in 100% French oak (40% new), this wine displays dense, ripe black cherry fruit, herbal notes, and lively acidity. This will match well with lighter dishes but is deep enough to stand up to meat as well! This wine was such a hit at one email customer's party that it had people coming in asking for it by name.

2000 Lafond Syrah Santa Rita Hills reg. $19.99 now $14.99
1000 Cases produced. 70% Lafond Vineyard, 20% Melville Vineyard, 10% Hilltop Vineyard. This wine gets its amazing intensity and complexity from the exceptionally long growing season afforded by this microclimate. Syrah is routinely harvested from late October to the end of November, giving the grapes a maximum opportunity to reach physiological ripeness. Aged in a blend of French, Hungarian, and American oak, (40% new) this wine displays the inky-black berry fruits typical of a Cote Rotie,as well as the smoky, meaty, earthy notes generally associated with Hermitage. A perfect match for grilled meats.

2001 Lafond Syrah Santa Rita Hills reg. $19.99 now $14.99
only 1case available!!
The folks at Lafond have just released the 2001 Syrah, and we were able to sneak in one case of it! This received the Best of Show award at the Monterey Wine Competition last year. The stats are similar to the 2000 vintage, but the 2001 shows greater concentration, a little more acidity, and a little more tannin. Save it for Steak au Poivre, herb-encrusted lamb, or cellar for a year to soften it up!

2000 Lafond Syrah Joughin Vineyard $34.99net only 30 bot available!
If there was one wine that seared the Lafond experience into Brent's memory, this was it. Only 160 cases of this wine were produced. It comes from a 2-acre vineyard that surrounds the home of Andrew Joughin, the longtime vineyardist for Lafond winery. Located just east of Los Olivos, about 10 miles from the winery, the vineyard is planted on dry, rocky soils that provide maximum stress for the vines. This is a blend of 82% Syrah and 18% Primitivo Zinfandel. When you unseal the cork, strong scents of lavender and rosemary, which grow like weeds in the scrub on the hills of this area, dominate the flavor profile. The fruit is dense and plummy, and velvety smooth. This is one of the finest examples of a California wine that exemplifies terroir that we have seen so far. Simply orgasmic with your finest rack of lamb.
