zackys is advertising this in todays new york times. i was wondering how this discounting compares to other parts of the country.

I have seen this on clearance at our our local liquor superstore (Beverages & More) for slightly about $38, iirc.

Here in Denver, $36 on an end of aisle display.

Cheapest I have seen is 57 at costco. Same price as the 99. Then again, I can't say I have been looking for this wine.

If it's anything like the '97, it's a winner and worth the money.

I think the problem is, is that it is nothing like the 1997........oh well.

'99 @ $57.00 is Not bad. Not bad @ all.

I'd buy a 2 Buck Chuck before I'd buy this.

A quick anecdote as a follow-on to my CSJ post a few weeks ago -

Was at a friends house two weekends ago, he asks if I want some wine (he's aware of my habit). Brings me a glass of red, and I immediately know it's a young Cali cab. I ask what it is and he shows me the bottle... CSJ CS '99.

I refused to drink it.

If I could get the 98 for around $40.00 a bottle locally I'd buy it. I've had one bottle and I thought it was a decent enough wine at the $40.00 price level. Mrs WIML liked it. I would basically be buying it for immediate consumption, not laying it down in the cellar.

Well, mdriver, has a sort of love/hate-relationship with these guys. Mostly hate, right mdriver?

Yeah, I don't really hate them. They did what I probably would have done...try to maximize their profits from a high-demand product. And they succeeded, I think. It just really angered me, and I suppose I'm bitter because I never got any of that wine.

Regardless, I just don't want anything to do with them. Period.

I have a love/hate relationship with Marquis Phillips products right now. I'd love to get my hands on some but I hate my distributors for not bringing them to the great wine inhibited State of Texas.
