Since someone mentioned the WS rating in another section, I just got this email. I don't follow WS ratings, but if others to and thing this is a good price, I wanted to post this except from their email to me:

Château Léoville Las Cases St.-Julien 2000
100 points | $170 (WC$139.99) | NA cases made

The hard work and dedication of owner and director Jean-Hubert Delon have helped realize his family’s dream: The 2000 Las Cases is absolutely fantastic. This is one of the most exciting young reds I have tasted in a long, long time. It shows intense aromas of berries, currants and minerals, with hints of mint. Full-bodied and packed with fruit and seamless tannins, it is refined, silky and long on the finish. A benchmark

for the vintage. Best after 2012.—J.S.

Eric, good to know. I bought futures of the Leoville Barton, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages for 1/2 that price. I am a Leoville Las Cases fan (have a case of the 70 left), but it was too steep for me before and still too steep now. Just because WS gives it a 100 is not enough for me to jump. If Parker gave it a 100, that is a different story.

parker's barrel rating was a 93-95. he usually rates the las cases higher than suckling.

zachy's just raised their price to about $270 a bottle and has the ws 100 point score on the website. until parker's rating is revealed, this wine should not go up much in price, but it is a good investment in the $130-150 range. if parker gives it a 94-95, one could always get their money back. if parker has a revelation while drinking from the bottle and gives it a 97, the wine will be close to $200. if he gives it a 98, it will be up to $225 a bottle. if he decides to match, suckling, we are talking about $300 plus. keep in mind, although he gave the las cases a 93-95+ out of barrel, he did say that wines are tasting out of bottle in the higher range of his barrel scores.

Bertelli's has the best price I've seen yet, $1620.00 per case of 12. I went ahead and bit. With no sales tax, this comes in even less than HiTimes.

I hope you get your wines from Hi Times. They are the ones that gave me 2 bottles of Christoffels instead of the 2 cases I ordered (and paid for) when WA came out with the high ratings. i'm starting to regret not getting any LLC's. They will be great 20-25 years from now.

I'm with you GATC, I've gone back and forth on this one several times, I think I'm going to buy and then I don't. Keep trying to talk myself into buying 3 and my window of opportunity is closing.....OK you pushed me over the edge, 3 from Premier. I will not take responsibility for this impulse buying.

I went into winesearcher.com and used my advanced privileges, thanks to skwid'c advice. The prices were going sky high - $140 range to double that. I guess WS does have some impact on the secondary market.

GATC: Yes they do. Guigal going for about $60.00-$70.00 a bottle?!? Yes.

Like someone (that we all know) told me once (about the WS-ratings & their "impact"): There are a Lot of people out there just don't know any better.

100 point scores even have an impact when WS gives them out.

I should not be so critical of WS ratings since I can't do a better job. But on the other hand, I'm not paid to do it either.

I guess I'm just cynical since there have been more than a dozen times when I tried a highly rated wine and thought, "what was James Laube thinking?"

gatc-i agree, but this is a 100 point score. in addition, this is leoville las cases, the greatest of all second growths. in mediocre vintages they make excellent wine. i would not be surprised to see parker bump up his rating to a 96 or higher. in fact, it is rare that leoville barton ever makes a better wine than las cases.

I just got an email that two 6-packs of the 2000 LLC is available in Nashville for $945.

After tax, it works out to about $172/bottle. If anyone wants them, I can pick them up for you on 8/29.

Cheers, y'all
