here is an interesting e-mail i recieved this morning.  i remember buying this for $25 before it became wine of the year & then complaining when the price kept going up each successive vintage (i wasn't the only one).  now it seems reasonable again.  could this be evidence of a glut of wine in the marketplace, or is there some other explanation?

WHAT THE PRESS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE 2004 CINQ CEPAGES

The Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"Fans of CC will find a wine with the balance of previous vintages. It refuses to be a fruit bomb, but offers a wealth of sumptuous blackberry and cherry liqueur flavors that pull back at the last moment under a blanket of youthful tannins. Not a long-term ager, but should hold for 6 years. Outstanding. Score 92."

The Wine Advocate / Robert Parker
"Displays an elegant, Bordeaux-like style offering aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, black currants, cherries, and spice box. Medium to full-bodied with soft, silky tannins, and a moderately long finish, it should drink well for 7-8 years. Outstanding. Score 90."

The Wine & Spirits Magazine
Underneath the smoke of this wine's meaty black tannin, there's a high-toned red fruit character, hinting at earthy roots and eucalyptus. A lamb chop will absorb some of the tannin and bring out the wine's elegance. Outstanding. Score 90."

The Wine News - Top Ten Cabernets of the Year
"This Sonoma charmer offers enticing aromas of mocha, roasted almond, black cherry-boysenberry fruit and violets. On the palate, the wine is elegantly bold and seamless, rich and extracted with medium-full, chewy tannins and copious flavors of ripe black raspberry, blueberry, dried lavender and espresso bean. Long, fruity finish."

My guess is that the winery is ready to release the 2005 but are blocked because their wholesaler still has some 2004 in the warehouse. (Wholesalers generally won't buy the new vintage until the last vintage is sold out so that they don't tie up both money and space.) What usually happens in this situation is that the winery tells the wholesaler to "make the wine go away", but they always want it done quietly so it doesn't look like a fire sale. Somebody didn't get the memo.

Indeed, the price. I bought a case split with a friend. You can't go wrong for that price. Thanks!
