| Peay Syrah Offer. Also note that they have remaining wines from their Spring release (but no Rousanne/Marsanne!).
2 Syrahs - Les Titans and La Bruma for $45 pb and mags (limit 1) for $110
We don't have very much Cali Syrah so I will probably order a few of each.
the offer letter:
Dear XXXX, Veraison
is underway in the pinot blocks and we are starting to think about the
2008 harvest. Before the hectic season kicks in, however, we are
releasing our 2006 Estate Syrahs, La Bruma and Les Titans.
We have previewed these wines at events in Northern California over the
past several months so a few of you might have tasted them. We’re
biased, but these wines are very likely to be some of the best red
wines we have ever made, anywhere. They have power and richness with
impeccable balance.
To review your allocation and purchase wines, you can enter the Wine Shop at our web site www.peayvineyards.com.
We also have a few cases of wine from the spring release available and
would like to offer them to you before we allocate them to our
restaurants.

As
you know, we do not chase scores from critics or submit wines for
review. We focus more on establishing relationships with customers who
get to know our wines, our winegrowing and winemaking philosophies and,
in many cases, us. Despite this we have been fortunate to receive
critical raves from a few sources in the past year. We were selected by
Wine & Spirit Magazine as a Top 100 Winery of the Year for the
third year in a row this year and also singled out as the Best New
American Winery of the Year. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
has also tracked us down and given us very nice reviews for all of our
wines. All of this may just reinforce what you already know. That is
the best use for reviews in our opinion.
Not to worry, we will
not get too big for our britches. We plan to grow grapes and make wine
for the rest of our lives and do not forget that it is the loyalty of
our customers that allows us to realize our passion. As a result we
have kept the mailing list prices for our Syrah at the same level for
the 4th year in a row and have been as generous as possible with our
allocations despite a doubling in the size of our mailing list.
Lastly,
if you are free this Wednesday night and near Napa Valley, come join us
for a Peay Winemaker dinner at Martini House. All four of us will be in
attendance for the annual Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Dinner
featuring our wines. It will be a lot of fun. When was the last time
you saw a giant tomato eat France while sipping California Pinot noir?
Their phone number is 707-963-2233.
We sincerely appreciate your
interest in our wines and look forward to many years of sharing our
efforts with you. Enjoy the waning days of summer.

| Yes, as Winetex and tanglenet point out I'm apparently the only person in the free world with a Peay TCA issue. Sucks. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| WIML, that ain't true. I have had two corked bottles of Peay over the years. Mainly 2003s. But all of the other bottles have been great.
Not sure what I will buy (if anything) as I am continuing to try to reign in mailer purchases.... | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

Two corked bottles over the years really isn't indicative of a corked bottle problem. If it were I wouldn't be able to buy any wine from any producer unless it was screwcapped.

Hey man I agree. Thinking back though I think it was actually 3 bottles. It is not enough to make me stop buying their wine. I am only considering reducing my purchases or temporarily halting them because I have a lot of Peay already in the cellar and also because I am trying to cut back on mailer purchases.... | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| I hear you re cutting back. I am too. In many ways it makes sense to drink up the cellar rather than make additional purchases right now. Peay though (insert my usual disclaimer here) is one I'm not going to pass on this time. | | | |

| Oh I see...
But, like Poolboy I never had a problem. Even the 03s not so great, but no issues with "bad" wines.

I think my problem these days is I have been drinking through my older vintages of their stuff and I prefer to have a bit of age on their reds.... It is a bit agonizing to decide what to buy or if to buy. Maybe I'll just make the order a goodly bit smaller and still order a bit. | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| WIML. Peay makes good wines, but it is an easy pass given the other more difficult choices I've already made. | | | |

I completely agree that their reds need age to unfurl - they are not your typical New World wines that show everything on release. The 06 Scallop Shelf Pinot though I must admit drinks really well right now (its my go to half bottle Pinot right now).
