The second email contains your allocation. I got the second email roughly an hour after the first.

I received 1 email and 1 letter. The letter contained my allocation.

I didn't receive a letter for the summer offering, just email notification. So I'm not sure if they have any sort of pattern but I've only been active on the list now for 3 years...

If anyone is not taking their entire allocation, I would love to get both 750's and mags of the cab...I am in So Cal, but have not problem paying for additional shipping for those out of the area...

PM if you have some to share...

I've still got some 750s available but you gotta find someone to pick it up from my place. This ol' back gets really unhappy pretty easily these days.

I am in the first tier and will be placing my order this coming Monday. I'll probably take my full allocation, but I am wondering what the word on the street is about this vintage. Any reviews, barrel tastings/ratings? Was 2005 generally a good year in 2005?

Tanzer likes it as much as previous vintages and possibly a little more.  On the high end of his range he is 1 point higher.  I haven't seen WA or WS reviews yet.

My guess is that this wine has the potential to be one of the outstanding QC's ever made - considering the performance of the 05 vintage in general for the region. Still - I personally balk at $100+ wines - particular on pre-release (thats just me - but heh)...still - I'm likely to purchase 6 750s just because I think it will be so good (and in demand)...I just can't get myself to spend $200+ on a mag - even though I imagine it will be garnering far more then that one day...I've just never spent more then $200 on a bottle of wine before (the most I've ever paid was $200 each for 2 mags of 99 Lafite). And if I were ever to pay that much for a bottle (even a mag) it would likely be for a Gaja or some other super quality Barolo. But I purchase wine to drink and not necessarily to resell or such.

Agreed, 2005 is a much hyped vintage in WA.  I'm taking my full allocation of QC for that reason alone.Â

And also, I do believe that Dr. Jay left a little note at the end of his 2004 QC reviews about the potential of 2005.

Also, Winoman, I feel the same way about purchasing a mag.  All I can say though is, DO IT!  You'll probably feel better about it when you sell it one day for a nice profit.  And if you don't sell it, hey, nothing wrong with drinking a big bottle of highly rated cab .

Get ready, order day is Monday.

Currently with these wines the worst you can do is sell them for 2-3 times what you paid for them. Otherwise you have very good wine to drink when you are much older.

Since you brought it up...  I've got an allocation for 3.  Will probably keep 1 and then try and flip the other 2.  Assuming the 05 vintage is as least as good as last year (if you believe the hype, it'll be 100 pts), how long would you wait to flip, and what venue would you use given the small quantity? Hitting the $2,500 min for WineBid would be a stretch unless I sold other stuff (Rochioli) that I don't want to.

Drew, since you only have a couple you want to flip I would hold out for the vintage hype. In the last five years the prices for QC have risen as the amount of each wine on the market diminished. The 100 point ratings are probably an aberration but high 90s are not out of the question.

The small quantity is tough, someone else should comment on that. I don't use Winebid or WineCommune.

I'd use winecommune for that amount. There has been an abundance of QC's on auction and that keeps prices somewhat sedated. I've sold a lot of QC in the last couple years, most recently a 6 magnum vertical ('99-'04) for $2400.

I haven't bought in the past, but I've been allocated 3. Will try tomorrow and see what happens.
