| i like this champagne & i took 6 bottles to a business dinner last month where it was served to a group who normally drink grocery store sparklers & they were blown away. i felt good about not bringing anything substantialy better. | | | |

| Had a Gaston Chiquet 1998 Special Club the other night that was tasty. Anyone had much experience with Special Club bottlings?
Also, anyone tried the 2002 Taittinger Comtes Rose?

But of course! WIML and I have both tried and bought some. I haven't done a TN on it but it is very good, about 93 pts from me. It is very lush right now but has underlying structure to last. I've considered buying more even at ~$120+. Probably the best vintage Rose for the price right now.

| In-stock and waiting for you from Premier Cru is a good vintage champagne at $55. Needs a couple of years but is solid stuff. This is about $10 pb less than I paid for it 6 months ago. *no affiliation just a buyer of this wine, 02 should prove to be a good vintage

| As WIML just pointed out to me Premier Cru has a special today worth looking at if you want a perfectly wonderful mag of vintage champagne.
I have had this from mag and it was very good. These need at least a couple of years but should be ready before the 96s. The 750s are running upwards of $125 right now.

| There were others on the email like MV Krug @ $65.00 which is an absolute steal. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| That price was a mistake that they aren't going to honor.
Funny, my email didn't have the Krug in it at all.

| Somebody I know supposedly got that price. They probably honored his and quickly fixed it. Price is "correct" now. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| Correction. They didn't honor the price. When they went to finalize the order they caught their mistake and canceled only the Krug off his order. He then canceled the entire order in return. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| Nothing but he did cancel the balance once they canceled on him. I guess I wouldn't expect them to offer anything at that point. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| mistakes happen - i think it's kind of lame to jump on something like that and get all upset when it turns out it too good to be true.
that's a good price on the 98 taittinger.

| I agree not to jump on a business for their mistake but IMHO it's in good form for said business to extend some sort of "we screwed up" gesture simply out of courtesy. I don't expect this type of treatment but it really goes a long way when something is offered to me, even if small (free/discounted shipping, special discount, etc.). In business, I always try to extend something to our customer's when we make a mistake, really goes a long way and the customer generally tells others about how great we are for making it up to them in some form. | | | |

that's a good price on the 98 taittinger. This is where you and I part jamietown probably for the first time in the history of this board. Key being here "too good to be true". Sure, $65.00 per bottle for MV Krug is unlikely being a 50% discount over current market pricing but I've certainly seen "deals of the century" like this before. I have Champagne in my cellar right now that's sitting there at 40% of then market values. It wasn't out of the realm of possibility this could have been a legitimate deal IMHO. On a side note, if I had been the retailer I would at a minimum have offered something like "Sorry, that price was a mistake and we can't honor it however. However, as a token of our appreciation for your understanding in this matter we'll give you X off this/next/whatever order from us. We apologize and thank you for your understanding." I don't consider simply canceling the order without a single word of explanation, acknowledgement, etc... acceptable in my book. My two cents FWIW.

| Ha ha Joe, first time huh? :)
I guess I was a little quick to react - if you take in current market conditions I guess it is not out of the question, but being a big champagne house where things are pretty tightly controlled, a dump on a luxury brand like Krug was probably unlikely. I do agree that a peace offering would have been the right thing to do, absolutely.
That said, having worked retail wine for a while and seeing some unreasonable demands made by customers, I guess I am a little sensitive. I should probably drink a little more champagne and chill out... :)
