| Last night, while having taco salad with the wife and in-laws, I had a couple of 'malt beverages'. One was Hooch Hard Lemonade and the other was Smirnoff Ice. Do you drink/like/buy malt beverages? And if so, what do you drink/like/buy? | | |

| I don't buy those types of drinks -- but frequently drink them at other people's houses during parties.
I find Mike's Hard Lemonade can be disastrous. I'm telling you it doesn't taste like there's alcohol in it!

| I'm torn between Schlitz and Old English 88. Quart sized in a brown paper bag of course. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

That STW is exactly what the big breweries want (most all of these drinks have some large drinks congolerate behind them). Basically they are made with malt (which is sweet) but then veer far far away from how beer is made. Personally I don't drink them as I find them too sweet. If I want Lemonade I'll drink the real stuff.

| A notch above Chardonnay, but still undrinkable. All part of the elixir from kidney family of liquids.

| A notch above Chardonnay. Good God, Doc! That hurts! Old English 800 is clearly the best malt beverage! And I agree, I wouldn't be caught dead drinking that $hit either. jb | | | |

| We call them RTDs and they don't recieve a great level of appreciation here either. The nickname is "lollie drinks" and they seem to appeal to the teenies. I refuse to stock them or drink them. When I've got real vodka, gin ,whatever why would I have wannbies? | | | |

'bitch beer' indeed. Kind of like wine coolers in the 80s. They used to sell wine coolers in 2-liter bottles, did you know that? | | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| David, Legal age is 18 here. Also teenager's can get alcohol if they really want to. One of the reasons why I don't stock them is to discourage them. | | | |

| I thought this was going to be about Horlicks and Ovaltine - I'm disappointed now. What is malt about them? | | | |

| if i go to a party and they've got malt drinks or turning leaf, i choose the malt drinks. however, if they've got vodka, it's no question, mixes with anything, and blows the malt drinks away. in fact, that's the great thing about vodka, it's a year round drink!! | | | |

| 18 is the drinking age here too. If you can vote you can drink and die for your country - seems fair.
We call these works of Satan alcopops. I've never spotted Malt hanging around in any of them. Next time I see them I will discreetly peek at the ingredients as long as I can be assured that no-one sees me looking. This may turn out to be embarrassing so I can't promise.
It's a bit like when I was going to buy Blue Nun Merlot out of curiosity but just could not face picking it up. Not seen any tasting notes around here.
