| How was it?
I had a bottle of '07 Abyss last night. Amazingly smooth for a beer of such power.

| Wow. Friend hosted a Rocktoberfest tonight... Beers that I remember- Spaten Octoberfest (on tap): this stuff kicked ass Konig Heffeweisen: meh. was ok, but not spectacular Mac & Jack Pale (growler) - great stuff 71 Pale - smelled like floor cleaner, taste to match Japanese White Ale - (had a penguin, was from Japan) - meh German Ale (white label, baby blue writing) - fan-freakin-tastic - I know, but the stuff was all in german

| Nothing special, but I had a gig at an Irish pub last night so I had to have a Guiness & a Murphy's from tap. Both were outstanding, very fresh.....and so much better from tap. | | | |

| A word of caution, just because a European beer is on tap doesn't mean it's fresh. I recently tried an Ayinger Octoberfest from tap that was brewed in April, 2007! It tasted flat - a shadow of its former self. Definitely not fresh.
I think that there is a real difference between the European beers that get imported to the East Coast and the West Coast. Most of the West Coast's European beer comes by ship through the Panama Canal. It takes a lot more time getting here, and spends a lot of it at higher than desired temperatures. And this is after the beers get pasturized before they make the trip. We air-freighted from Munich in a bunch of Spaten Oktoberfest for a party several years ago and it was amazing stuff. I haven't had a Spaten to match it since. | | | Heater Allen Brewing - www.heaterallen.com

| A few Anchor Steam Liberty Ales with homemade bouillabaisse, clams, mussels and thyme/garlic croutons. About as good as it gets - that beer was made for seafood soup! | | | |

| brad, the slyfox lineup is starting to hit, eh?
last week in cali i went thru some mammoth brewing company beers that were surprisingly good. http://www.mammothbrewingco.com/ no notes but i tatsed thru 3 beers that were all decent.
also finally stopped at the indian wells brewing company on the way back to los angeles. http://www.mojave-red.com/ also no notes but i tasted thru 8 beers that were all good. i recall the orange blossom amber, lobotomy bock and the blackout stout being the standouts.
