This wine is far from closed down right now.

Color is a pale lemon core with some wateriness at the rim. Pronounced nose of ripe pear, white peach and wet stone. Medium to full in the mouth with some clementine, lemon curd, minerals and slate. This wine still remains very etheral and light on its feet. Balanced acidity and a long finish. Beautiful Riesling. jb Rating 92.

Can't wait for the chicken to be done to see how this marries with the flavors.

So, how was the pairing? Thanks for the TNs - I had a S-O Kabinett and was amazed at the balance, complexity, intensity etc. I can only imagine how much better the Spatlese would be.

Actually, it was just OK. The chicken had bacon and mushrooms. That didn't mesh so well with this. Not awful, though. Wine was fantastic regardless.

I like this wine. Too bad I only got 6. I like the Sonnenuhr slightly better.

I find that even when the food match with rieslings in not ideal, it is seldom awful. The worst food match for me is when the food has some (even slight) sweetness and the wine can't handle it and tastes like vinegar.

GATC, how long do you think this one could go? It had quite a bit of acidity to it.

I think the Schlossberg will actually age better than the Sonnenuhr due to its more apparent structure. I would give it a good aging potential of 10-12 years of improvement and another 5-7 of stability with impeccable storage conditions.

IMO the Sonnenuhr will reach its maturity faster, not retaining as much vibrancy.

I love 'em both (much more so than in '02, though the Schlossberg '02 was really good) but it is really amazing how different two wines from a 1/2 mile apart can be.
