  • 2005 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (7/10/2008)
Fantastic bottle of wine - apples, apricots, peaches all balancing on a razor's edge like acidity and wrapped in a saline minerality. Pure and intense with focused flavors with a long finish. Very, very good with Thai grilled chicken and cilantro rice. (92 pts.)

Jamie - we had this wine last night with chipolte BBQ chicken I made on the grill and I have to agree with your assessment of this wine (not the first time I've sampled it - had it once before - last Fall or Winter - and its noticibly improved it would seem). What really stood out IMO was the very intense minerality and the aciidty you mentioned. Sure it was sweet - but not nearly so sweet as the 04 Gunderloch Spatlese we had a few ngihts earlier (also scrumptious but not nearly as elegant and refined as this Selbach-Oster). My wife and I finished the wine before we finished the meal - which really shows you how delicious it was - we couldn't just not drink it all down (bet you can't just have one sort of thing)...luckily I have more! (as well as some of the Schmidt...not sure if its Spatlese or Auslese...). Even our 12 year old - that we let try a sip after he commented how estatically we were gushing about the wine - said that it was very refreshing (and good) - unusual for him - even with a sweet wine...

I hear ya winoman - the "yum factor" on this wine was off the charts. I have 3 more bottles and I'm not sure they will last the summer for me (especially since I like to grill Thai chicken).
