RZ: 13,0 g/l, Sr. 6,3 g/l, Alk. 12,5 % vol.
'Dom Scharzhofberger' is one of the brands of Sekt produced by the Hohe Domkirche (the Cathedral of Trier), and yes, it's 100% riesling from the Scharzhofberg vineyard.
Mid Gold. Very obviously a Saar Riesling from the first sniff. Surprising good nose for what is basically a halb-trocken wine, with fairly good fruit. The tiny bubble size shows that this was indeed bottle-fermented. The acidity is quite sharp, but not un-naturally so, and is pretty much what I expected. There is no way this could be mistaken for Champagne, but on it's own terms it's really not bad, and rather elegant, and at just 10 Euros it's very affordable.
Do I dare rate it? Let's say 85-90, though I'll happilly admit I don't have much experience of either Sekt or Champagne.
