I don't usually go looking in the Pfalz for kabinett, but last night I opened this bottling from Minges, and was (for the second time with this wine) very impressed. Right out of hte bottle it was showing an elegant mineral backbone and ripe but measured tropical fruit flavors. the overall mouthfeel was of a light and refreshing wine, with no thickness and no overt sweetness, although it does show a light level of sugar. Tropical fruit and stones come through on the palate in a similar way to the nose, with a lovely, lingering presence on the finish.

This is an excellent kabinett, and one with fine balance for drinking now or aging several years. It's stylisticly kabinett, not showing like a declassified spatlese or anything like that (though I am sure it was quite ripe...what isn't these days?). I would definitely recommend trying the wines of Theo Minges to anyone who has not done so yet. There's great value in his liter bottlings, and kabinett like this is worth it's weight in beerenauslese. He also does some wonderful things with Scheurebe which scores extra points in my book.

DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No one knows about that wine, for which I'm very thankful. But for under $20, it is brilliant.
