This is a wine that I think is somewhat atypical in relation to many of the 2003 German Rieslings that I have encountered thus far. Pale lemon in color, Hexamer has fashioned a wine that has penetrating aromas of cotton candy, baked apples, with a hint of bing cherries. The problem that I have had with many '03s is plump fruit and absent acid levels. This wine, however, has adequate acidity. Hexamer seems to be one of the few that got it right, along with many Donnhoffs and Schmitt Wagner's. Etheral, yet present and focused flavors of white peach and citrus, with more confection notes rounding out the moderate finish. IMO, this is a 5-8 year wine, as the acid levels are good, but not gushing. Absolutely tasty right now, though, so who cares? Delish!

Hexamer acidified in '03 (as did many) and hit the mark perfectly.

His Spatlese* is absolutely killer.
