Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm thinking of trying this with a dinner of lamb, alongside a couple of syrahs...just for the sake of wine "science" of course.

it has been years since i had this wine. i do remember that it was pretty bad and bottles were from both my cellar and at restaurants. iirc, 92 was a difficult year in the southern rhone.

I have what someone here described as a "Board-O vertical" of Beaucastel. That is every good year, back to 1978. I know I never bought the 1992, and while I don;t specifically remember the reason, it must have been because of poor reviews. The southern Rhone has relatively few poor years, but 1992 was one of them. The wines of the Rhone in 1992 were thin and short-lived. If you haven't bought it, don't.

2002 seems to be a repeat of '92 from what the "pros" say.

excellent.

I guess that's why this was so incredibly cheap. At least I only bought one bottle.

Thanks for the info.

Well, I would drink it fairly soon and please post notes on it. I hope my guess was wrong, but Beaucastel is a long-lived wine, so maybe it's still good. How much did you pay for it?

I don't remember exactly, but I think it was less than $30. I figured it was Beaucastel, and it carried an RP score of 90. How could I go wrong?

Unfortunately that score was from a 1994 TN. In 1997 he gave it a 74!

Glad I didn't buy a case.

You guys were right. Aside from a nose with decent complexity (minerals, leather, very faint fruit), this wasn't very good. Board-O's "thin" descriptor was pretty much on the nose.

I definatley won't seek more of this at any price.

Thanks for the heads-up fellas.
