We will be tasting some of the 1st and 2nds from the 2002 vintage tomorrow. Has anyone had experience recently with how much air time to give these wines?

2002 is a somewhat maligned vintage leaning toward a more classic, non fruitbomb stryle. The Medoc's are the preferred bank, and some of the wines are now shutting down. I would suggest liberal decanting.

Haven't tried the first growths but I recommend at least an hour of open air based on the 2nd and 3rd growths I've tried. I wouldn't leave 'em out in the breeze for hours, though - I fear the fruit will dissipate, leaving predominately tannins.
